Who is it for ?

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), or Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) as it is meanwhile called in the UK, mainly works in three fields:

  • in the psychopathology of adults,
  • in the psychopathology of children and adolescents
  • in the area of prevention.

The work with adults is directed at individuals who suffer from anxiety, emotional and mental disorders, addiction, schizophrenia and other psychotic and personality disorders. Dance movement psychotherapists also work with individuals who have suffered traumas such as physical, sexual or emotional abuse or individuals who suffer from distorted body images (eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia).

DMP is being employed with hyperactive and aggressive children and adolescents, those with developmental delays, autism, learning difficulties, emotionally challenging, introverted or distracted children or adolescents,  and all those who prefer to express themselves through other ways than the spoken word.

DMP also offers a valuable means of prevention, addressing all those who wish to use expressive movement and dance to work on their personal development and growth. Through improvised movement and play they may confront themselves with a process of personal exploration and integration.

DMP works both, individually and in groups.
